Phillip W. Weiss has a long and honorable record of public service. He was employed for almost forty years in the health care field where he provided direct services to persons from at-risk and underserved populations, including, but not limited to, abused and neglected children, the frail elderly, newly arrived immigrants, the under-insured and non-insured, and the homeless. This experience provided Phil first-hand knowledge of the plight of the less fortunate and of the need for a strong economy that could provide the economic incentives and opportunities necessary to help those on the margins transition into the mainstream of society.
Phil was a union activist who advocated on behalf of working people and was elected as a delegate to the New York City Central Labor Council where he had an opportunity to interact and work proactively with other labor activists to craft policies to ensure that workers were treated fairly and their labor respected and honored.
AND THERE IS MORE!
Phil also contributed to the nation's national defense. In addition to serving honorably for six years in the United States Army Reserves, where he attained the rank of Specialist-5 and was trained as a operating room specialist, he served almost four years overseas with the U. S. Army in Europe as a civilian senior level clinical social worker in West Germany. During his service in West Germany, Phil worked as a member of a U. S. Army clinical multidisciplinary treatment team that provided medically related services to U. S. military dependents with a wide range of physical and emotional problems.
After he retired, Phil founded his own company, Phil's Literary Works LLC. Phil's Literary Works LLC produces staged readings of plays. Since starting his company, Phil has staged over twenty-eight plays and has directed over 150 actors. This experience in theatre has provided Phil immensely valuable experience in organizing and motivating people to achieve established objectives.
